Why work with me?
Applying to university can feel overwhelming, particularly when applying for competitive courses where the selection process goes far beyond your grades. Having successfully applied to both the University of Oxford and Imperial College London, I understand the challenges students face when making a strong application.
During my time at Oxford, I was heavily involved in outreach through both my college (The Queen’s College) and the Department of Chemistry, supporting prospective students and developing my understanding of the admissions process.
What happens during lessons?
After our initial consultation, I design a course of sessions based on the student’s specific goals and where they’re currently at in the application process. For example, for a student applying to study the MChem Chemistry course at the University of Oxford who is in the very early stages of the admissions process, I would recommend the following lesson structure:
1 lesson giving a general overview of Oxford admissions, college selection and the MChem course
1 lesson discussing initial personal statement ideas and recommending supercurricular activities
2-5 lessons developing and refining the personal statement
1 lesson discussing the interview process in detail and giving recommendations for preparation
3-5 mock interviews with detailed feedback given in each session, focusing on different areas of the course and developing skills
Testimonials
“I largely attribute my place at Oxford to Kyla and genuinely feel indebted to her for her help. She always went above and beyond to ensure I got everything I needed from our sessions. Outside of these, we were in regular contact and she was always happy to adapt and change the plan if I came across a new topic or problem that I wanted to discuss with short notice. The level of investment she has in her students truly sets Kyla apart, and I cannot recommend her enough.”
“Thanks for all your support, Kyla. I think you’ve done a great job helping with preparation for an interview. Your knowledge, approach and tips have provided some very welcome experience and confidence.”
“Kyla was great in helping me feel comfortable and prepared for my Oxford Interview! I had 6 sessions with her, with 2 mock interviews in each section [of the course] (Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry and Physical Chemistry & Maths). After each session she sent me personalised feedback and advice for the next one. For the last 3 sessions she even put together personalised interviews to focus on my own weaknesses and things I felt I needed to improve on, showing the time and dedication she puts into each student.”
