Aisha’s Story

Building strong foundations and achieving ambitious goals (87 hours of tuition)

Aisha* was a Year 13 Oxford AQA A-Level Chemistry student hoping to studying medicine at university. When she came to me, she had recently received her AS results and was disappointed to have achieved a Grade D in her Unit 2 Chemistry paper.

With her AS resit exams approaching, we worked to rebuild her understanding of the course from the foundations upwards. Rather than focusing solely on memorising content, we concentrated on developing a strong conceptual understanding, giving her both the knowledge needed for her exams and a stronger foundation for the A2 course.

After four months of focused preparation, Aisha resat her AS exams and improved her result from a Grade D to a Grade A. Following resits, we continued working together to prepare for her A2 exams, focusing on improving her confidence with the more complex content and developing strong exam technique.

Clara’s Story

Developing tailored exam technique strategies (43 hours of tuition)

Clara* was a Year 13 AQA A-Level Biology student whose dyslexia meant that she found longer application-style questions particularly challenging. Together, we developed strategies other help her break down complex questions, identify the relevant information and approach unfamiliar scenarios with more confidence.

Alongside improving her exam technique, we identified areas where her subject knowledge needed strengthening and worked through these to develop a deeper understanding of the course, particularly in topics relating to genetics and gene technology.

By the end of our time together, Clara felt much more confident approaching exam questions and had developed strategies she could apply independently.

Niamh’s Story

Targeted support to build confidence before exams (7 hours of tuition)

Niamh* was a Year 12 CCEA AS Chemistry student who came to me for targeted support before her AS exams. Although she was generally confident with Chemistry, Organic Chemistry was an area where she had struggled to develop a strong understanding.

I created a focused programme of lessons, supported by tailored worksheets between sessions, to help identify gaps and rebuild her understanding of the topic. By the end of our time together, Niamh felt much more confident with Organic Chemistry and better prepared for both her AS exams and the transition into the A2 course.
